History of Lymph Medical Academy Founded in 2012, Lymph Medical Academy (formerly known as Lymph Africa Education) emerged with a mission to elevate healthcare standards across South Africa and the broader African continent. Recognizing the critical need for advanced training in Lymphoedema and chronic Oedema care, our initiative aimed to address the insufficient awareness, prevention education, and treatment resources available at the time.
Led by Suzi Davey OTR/L, CLT-LANA, CLWT, a distinguished Lymphoedema Specialist with over two decades of experience, our academy was shaped by her vision for comprehensive training in Lymphoedema and Wound Care management. In early 2015, this vision converged with that of Robyn Bjork Physio, founder of the International Lymphoedema and Wound Care Training Institute, marking a pivotal moment in our journey. By October 2015, Lymph Medical Academy was introduced to the South African healthcare market, pioneering certification training and HPCSA Accredited education in Lymphoedema and Wound Care.
This initiative was designed to empower healthcare professionals including Doctors, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Podiatrists, and Orthotists with essential skills and knowledge. Looking forward, our vision extends to establishing "Lymphoedema Centers of Excellence" across South Africa.
These centers will serve as beacons of excellence in Lymphoedema and Wound Care, fostering partnerships with stakeholders to optimize patient outcomes and ensure effective financial management for healthcare funders. Join us at Lymph Medical Academy as we continue to innovate, educate, and transform the landscape of Lymphoedema care in Africa and beyond.
